This is an experiment in point of view and character voice. In this series I’ll be using MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator)—to explore how they shape the way a character tells their own story.

  • For writers, it’s a tool to sharpen your characters voices and deepen uniqueness.

  • For AI users, it’s a way to refine prompts and narrative tone… to make your AI-generated prose feel more human.

  • For readers, it’s a way to explore MBTI types in action, and reflect on how perspective changes everything—even in a familiar fable.

Let’s find out what happens when a classic tale gets filtered through a new lens.

🐢 The Original Fable: The Tortoise and the Hare

A hare made fun of a tortoise for being so slow. The tortoise challenged the hare to a race. Amused, the hare agreed and sprinted ahead, confident of winning. Halfway through, he grew bored and decided to nap. The tortoise, moving slowly and steadily, passed the sleeping hare and crossed the finish line just as the hare awoke and dashed forward. Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.

📝 Retelling: The Hare as an ESFP

I love a good crowd.

Not because I need the attention—okay, maybe a little—but because energy is contagious. The laughter, the buzz, the way your feet feel lighter when people are watching? That’s magic. That’s life.

So when the tortoise challenged me? I grinned. Big. The kind that gets the front row leaning forward.

“Let’s give them a show,” I said. And I meant it.

I bolted at the start, full tilt, heart pounding like a drum solo. The wind tore through my ears, the world blurred around me, and every breath was a celebration. I looked back once—he wasn’t even halfway to the tree line.

That’s when I saw the perfect shady spot. Sun-warmed grass, dappled light, just enough breeze.

A break wouldn’t hurt. Let them see I wasn’t worried. Besides, this was part of it—the drama, the arc. Who wins a race with no flair?

I stretched out. Closed my eyes.

Woke to silence.

And the tortoise? He was already steps from the finish.

I ran—oh, I ran—but he crossed just as I reached the tape.

The crowd went wild. For him.

I laughed. What else could I do?

He earned it. He played the long game, the steady rhythm. That has its own kind of beauty.

But next time?

I’ll still run like a firework on legs—loud, bright, and gone too fast. I’ll just save the nap for after the encore.

📚 If You’re Enjoying These Fable Retellings…

You might love my speculative short story collections under the Echoes of Aesop series.

Each book takes one of Aesop’s ancient fables and explores its themes through original speculative fiction—experience these timeless stories from the viewpoint of mermaids, vampires, ghosts, and aliens while they struggle to survive in settings that include desert caravans, space stations, haunted mansions and alternate realities.

💡 MBTI Lens: ESFP – The Performer

Commonly called “The Entertainer,” “The Enthusiast,” or “The Life of the Party,” ESFPs are sensory storytellers who live for the moment—and for the crowd. Charming, bold, and wildly in tune with emotional vibes, they bring color to everything they touch. Under the fun? A desire to connect, to matter, and to keep the good times from slipping away.

  • Core Traits: Energetic, spontaneous, playful, people-loving, impulsive
